Kupungarri Retreat
Mt Barnett, Derby–Gibbs Road, Kupungarri community, Western Australia
About the project
Metio is collaborating with Kupungarri Aboriginal Corporation to develop Kupungarri Retreat, a modern accommodation facility at Mt Barnett Roadhouse. This initiative aims to provide high-quality lodging for tourists traveling the Gibb River Road, as well as essential service providers in the region. The project focuses on creating sustainable, climate-resilient, and culturally sensitive accommodations that resonate with the unique environment and heritage of the Ngarinyin people of Kupungarri.
The retreat will offer a variety of lodging choices, including double cabins and self-contained rooms, catering to diverse visitor needs.
Project development
Metio is leading the project development, including facilitating community consultations, engaging consultants, and identifying funding opportunities. A feasibility study is under way with the support of a grant from Tourism WA, and the project has progressed to the concept design stage.
