Cultural camp

About the project
Nyamal Cultural Camp will be a modern facility within Purungunya National Park, providing long-term social, cultural and economic benefits for the Nyamal Aboriginal Corporation RNTBC and the broader Nyamal community.
By providing space for up to 150 people to gather – for on-Country meetings, intergenerational sharing of language, knowledge and culture – the facility will strengthen and enhance on-Country programs and cultural preservation initiatives.
Project development
The WA Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions has committed to supporting the development and provided funding for the early stages. Metio is coordinating the project development, facilitating community engagement and identifying the best consultants for the job.
An on-Country workshop in late 2025 provided a clear brief for Peter Stutchbury Architecture. In their concept design, since approved by the board, it’s a long building with a curved central spine incorporating Nyamal marnta (rocks). A large central space opens up toward the river.
